Early Sutton Newspapers now on newspapers.com

With the March 13, 1903 issue, The Sutton newspaper called The Advertiser-News was renamed The Sutton News.

The website newspapers.com recently posted copies of early Sutton Newspapers. The Advertiser-News is now online from September 6, 1896 until the name change. The Sutton News is available until its sale to The Sutton Register in 1936. The early copies of the Advertiser-News are indexed under "The Sutton News" at newspapers.com

Simon A. Fischer initially planned to fold his newspaper at the end of 1936, but instead announced on February 28th that he and Charles Brown, owner of The Sutton Register, had agreed on the sale of the News to the Register.

The Sutton Register is available on newspapers.com regularly from September, 1889 with a few issues from earlier. Newspapers.com has posted the Register through the end of 1942. The Register later became The Clay County News. Early copies of The Clay County News only very, very recently appeared  on the website beginning in May 1942 after a lapse while equipment was set up and changes made from The Sutton News to continue Sutton newspapers. The Clay County News is available through 1968. (Watch this space, hopefully.)

Other county newspapers from Edgar, Clay Center, Harvard, and Fairfield have been available for years along with limited numbers from smaller towns.

Newspapers.com is a available by subscription with annual fees around $100 depending on other related subscriptions. My opinion: it is a fair price considering the labor and other resources needed to post thousands of newspapers from around the world and going back a long ways - how about the Pennsylvania Gazette from 1728?
