Schroder Family Service WWII W.A.V.E.S. & Vietnam Casualty

Clay Center native Helen Moger Schroder recounts her story in the Navy in World War II, holding a photo of her son Jack Schroder who was one of three Clay County men to die in the Vietnam War.

Roger Sheridan & Roger Welsch & Allis Chalmers at Old Trusty Days - 1995

Author and Nebraska humorist Roger Welsch and Sutton's Roger Sheridan enjoyed an Allis Chalmers day at Old Trusty Days in 1995.

Unfortunately, we miss out on the highlight of the day. This B&W photo fails to give us the full impact of two men in orange overalls celebrating the branding of their fav tractors. Shame, that.

These ads appeared in The Clay County on September 14, 1995 at the beginning of the football season.

OK, I know it's a crummy picture - a photo of a faded newspaper, but the names are there and it's the thought that counts, isn't it?

This would be your 1970 Fightin' Mustangs.

This is what you missed out on when you couldn't make it to the 1945 Clay County Fair.

Obituary of Henry & Alice Vauck - Killed 11 Nov 1957 at Sutton Downtown RR Crossing

The automatic railroad crossing guards in the middle of downtown Sutton were installed after this accident.

Henry Vauck served as Clay County Judge for several years. His brother in law, Roy Oakley served as County Clerk for 33 years. Both men had lost a leg in childhood accidents, both turning those losses into the opportunity to receive an education, teach in rural schools, and serve as county officials.

Henry and Alice Vauck were highly valued members of the Sutton community and their tragic loss that afternoon hit the town of Sutton hard.
