1996 Thinking Cap Quiz Bowl 5th & 6th Graders

The 1996 5th graders earned the highest score in the state in the Thinking Cap Quiz Bowl. The 6th graders placed 3rd in the state.

1921 Sutton Art "Impersonation" Show at the Home of Miss Hoerger

Do you recall the "Grecian Urn" bit from the movie "The Music Man?" Well, that was a thing.



This article appeared in The Sutton News on November 18, 1921, the same issue that described the annual music concert at Sutton Schools. Culture reigned.

This was the program for the annual high school concert at Sutton Schools in November 1921.

Do not know about Mr. and Mrs. Hagenow who helped out, but Miss Josephine Silver was a private music teacher in Sutton for several years. 



 

The 1946 Harvard Football Team Capped a 4-year Dynasty

The Harvard football team had a heckuva run from 1943 through 1946, four years with one defeat, one tie, and a bunch of wins. 

Note the military ranks of the coaches in '44 and '45. Must be a story or two behind that.

The Barbee vets of Larry, his father James Barbee and older brother James served the area for many years.

Aunt Emma's opens November 1996

"Aunt Emma's" tea house opened 25 years ago on November 25, 1996. Deb and Bob Unterseher operated the destination establishment for nine years. The Sutton Historical Society acquired the home in 2005 designating it as Sutton's Historic House and center of the Sutton Museum.

Gov. McKelvie at Sutton Commercial Club - Nov. 1921

Governor Samuel R. McKelvie, Fairfield native, was the guest speaker at the November 1921 meeting of the Sutton Community Club. 

Here we learn about the menu, the toasts, and a bit about the Governor's speech.

The 1921 Clay Center football team brought a stellar reputation to the late season game in Sutton. The Sutton team apparently was badly overmatched on paper and by past performances.
