1950s Businesses in Sutton

This ad is from July 1955 when Sutton had four machinery dealerships - Sheridan's Massie Harris, Bauman's Farmall, Smith Brothers Allis Chalmers, and Bender's John Deere.

Most of these ads came from 1943, in the midst of World War II.

Grover Schneider's Blue Valley IGA Store was at the north end of the west side of Saunders south of the tracks - where Jessica's optometry shop now lives.

1930s Businesses in Sutton

One discovery of this project was finding an industry that suffered seriously during the depression. While looking for Sutton business ads in newspapers from the mid-1930s, we often found fewer than a handful in either of the town's papers. Businesses appeared to cut their advertising budgets, seriously. There were numerous ads in 1931 and 1939, but 1934, not so much.

Looks like Sutton had an afternoon radio show on KFAB in 1931. I believe KFAB was still in Lincoln at this time.

Did not remember hearing about the Blosser-Wright auto dealership before.

Gold's department store left Sutton in 1890, but continued to advertise in rural papers, at least into the '30's.
