Sutton Chapter of the Order of DeMolay formed in 1922

The Sutton Chapter of the Order of DeMolay was formed in February 1922 with 70 boys in the new organization. DeMolay was for boys 16 to 21 though the lower age range declined over the life of the organization.

Fans of the 1922 Sutton basketball team will recognize several of the officers.

The Order of DeMolay was named after Jacques de Molay, the 23rd and last grand master of the Knights Templar who was burned at the stake in 1314 as part of Pope Clement V's clampdown on the Knights Templar. Clement confiscated the assets of the Templars and turned them over to the Knights Hospitaller.
