The Sutton Mustang was the monthly newspaper published by the journalism class.
Miss Stella Softly was the faculty advisor. The 1954-1955 Mustang staff was Carl Schneller; Jerry Pearson, editor; Alvin Misener; Tom Schwab, co-editor; Marlys French; Kay Mankamyer; Marcia Savage; and Kay Figi.

Seaman Second Class Samuel Joseph Marsh of Grafton, a crewman on the U.S.S. Houston was wounded on February 4, 1942. He was placed in a hospital on the island of Java which was soon attacked. He and 400 other patients were taken on the oil tanker, the U.S.S. Pecos to go to Australia but the ship was bombed and sank on March 2nd.
Seaman Marsh was listed as missing until December 15, 1945 when he was declared to be dead.

In 1921, 31 years after moving from Sutton to Lincoln, Gold & Co. was still running ads in Clay County papers. This from The Sutton News in February 1921.
Sutton's 1921 basketball team beat Fairmont 42-15 and the Reserves beat Stockham 54-21.
For those familiar with that era, this was one year before may of these fellows, Steinhauer, Schwarz, M. Wieland, cousin G. Wieland, Spielman, maybe Kahm would return to win the Nebraska Class A championship, and go onto bigger things.

In an earlier road trip recounted in The Sutton News of February 18, 1921, the Sutton Mustangs took a 20-16 loss to Lincoln High before losing 37-13 to University Place.
